Making Ice Cream
My 9yo had a project in her science book -- making ice cream! For some reason, she decided to DO this one (they are optional). Here's a picture of her making the ice cream, and one of her eating the results of her labor.
Final verdict -- It tastes good!
And she even cleaned up afterward.
DD is happy. :) Mom is happy. :)

Cleaning up after projects never fails to make a mom happy :-).
I have an old book that is so used it is falling apart... it is called Kitchen Chemistry. It is all about teaching chemisty with things in the kitchen and usually you can eat the results. The kids who have used it remember the concepts because they 'did' it instead of just reading about it!!!

Looks like a satisfying project! How did she 'stir' the ice cream? The kids and I did coffee can ice cream last year - the ice cream ingrediants were in a small coffee can which was put inside a larger coffee can with ice and salt in between. Then, we kicked the cans around for about half and hour before it was ready - it was rather good!
The coffee cans is a good idea. To stir it she put the ice cream in a small ziploc bag, then put that with ice & salt into a gallon ziploc bag. Then she shook the whole thing. She put her gloves on to keep her hands warm.
I'm requesting "Kitchen Chemistry" from the library.
